WW1 Battlefield Tour Options

First World War Tours can be arranged throughout the year.

Four day (three night) World War One battlefield tours are available, as are longer trips which could include other important sites of The Great War. Tours can also include other places of interest, for example La Coupole (World War II rocket launch site), Agincourt, Mont St Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry, Bruges and the Normandy beaches.

I have a set itinerary but can willingly tailor it to suit particular interests - my usual four day itinerary can be seen below.

By arrangement, your battlefield tour can start in the Kent town of Faversham (other pre-arranged pick up points are possible e.g Amiens, Arras, Bruges etc.)  Your bespoke trip will be an ideal opportunity for you and your family or friends to visit some of the most historically important World War One battlefields (including The Somme).

Places in The Somme that can be visited include Serre, Auchonvillers, Hawthorn Crater, the preserved battlefield at Beaumont Hamel, The Ulster Memorial, Thiepval, Ovillers, Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, La Boisselle, Fricourt, Mametz, High Wood, Deville Wood (Longueval), Albert, Guillemont, Villers Bretonneux (the Australian memorial), Le Hamel and Baron Von Richthoven's crash site.  

Sites in Flanders that we visit include Passchendaele,Tyne Cot, Zonnebeke, Zillebeke (Hill 60 and The Caterpillar Crater) , Polygon Wood, Ypres (Menin Gate Ceremony), The Messines Ridge, The Island of Ireland Peace Park and The Spanbroekmolen Crater.

The Battles of Artois sites that can be visited include Vimy Ridge (Canadian Memorial Park), La Targette, Notre Dame de Lorette (French Memorial), Bullecourt, tunnels in and around Arras, the German World War I Cemetery in Neuville St. Vaast and the monastery at Mont St Eloi.

 Day 1

• Travel to the farmhouse from pre-arranged pick-up point via: 
• Vimy Ridge (Canadian Memorial Park nr Arras) tunnel and trench visit or La Carriere Wellington in Arras
• Notre Dame de Lorette (French national World War I memorial and cemetery)
• La Targette and Cabaret Rouge cemeteries and Neuville St. Vaast German cemetery 

Day 2

• Loos September 1915 (Dud Corner and St Mary's ADC cemetery)
• Neuve Chapelle March 1915 Indian Memorial
• Fromelles (1916) including The Cobber Memorial, VC Corner and the new Pheasant Wood Cemetery
• Messines Ridge 1917 including the Spanbroekmolen Lone Pine Tree Crater, the Khaki Chums Christmas Truce Memorial & The Ploegsteert Woods
• Passchendaele & Tyne Cot Cemetery
• Polygon Wood
• Zillebeke (Hill 60, Caterpillar Crater)
• Meal in Ypres
• Ypres Menin Gate Ceremony

Day 3

Somme 1916 Tour

• The Lochnagar Crater at La Boisselle
• Mouquet Farm & Poziers (Australian sites)
• High Wood and Caterpillar Valley
• The Butte de Warlincourt
• Mametz Wood and Delville Wood (South African memorial)  
• The Thiepval Memorial & visitors' centre

Day 4

Somme 1918 Tour (Battle of Amiens)

• Albert 1914/1918 Trench Museum (in tunnels under the town) or Australian Museum in Villers Bretonneux

• Australian Memorial at Le Hamel
• Adelaide cemetery
