About Me - Your Somme Tour Guide
Mike Williamson
Following my early retirement as headteacher (principal) of a large Kent school I have been able to devote more time to my great passion; the First World War, especially The Battles of The Somme 1916 and 1918.
My interest in the First World War has developed over many years. For the past 4 years I have conducted numerous tours for visitors from the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, the USA, Germany and South Africa.
In 2004 I purchased a large 150 year old farmhouse in the Somme Department, some 35 minutes away from the 18 mile long battlefield. This house has been lovingly restored by the family and now provides a wonderful base for family holidays and tours of the battlefields.
I have planned a four day World War One and Somme battlefield tour but alternative itineraries, including longer trips and visits to poignant cemeteries, can be arranged. You tell me where you would like to go and I will do my best to organise the tour - I have arranged ten day trips which included visits to Ypres, The Somme, Loos, Fromelles, Normandy, The Marne, The Aisne and Verdun.
